Production of 98% of Iranian barberry in South Khorasan
The head of Birjand Chamber of Commerce, stating that 98% of the country’s barberry is produced in South Khorasan, said: Export of strategic products of this region can play a significant role in the development of its economy.
Mohsen Ehtesham in the meeting of the members of the Expediency Discernment Council with the members of the South Khorasan Chamber of Commerce, pointing out that this province has lagged behind in some matters despite its potentials, capacities and God-given and cultural resources, said: It is facing water shortage, but has strategic products such as barberry, saffron and jujube.
He added: Many investments have been made in this area, but unfortunately, due to some issues, it has faced many problems and has not been successful.
The head of the Birjand Chamber of Commerce said that the province has many opportunities due to its border with Afghanistan, adding: But due to the weaknesses in the border markets, we do not have the share we need to have in exports.
Ehtesham mentioned the high interest rates as one of the problems of investors and added: Increasing bank interest rates has taken the export power away from our exporters.
He continued: If we want to provide the ground for investors to enter, we must provide the ground for the exchange of benefits, because the philosophy of global exports, the exchange of benefits, is public wealth for both parties.
The head of Birjand Chamber of Commerce, emphasizing that the multi-year drought in this province has caused no other crop to be cultivated except barberry, saffron and jujube, continued: If production was formed in this province, it was based on export-oriented production, but due to lack of support There are some problems for production units.
Ehtesham, stating that in the export sector we do not have a strategic production and export, noted: Due to changes in domestic exports and imports, we need to realize the development of exports, employment and industrial production.
