Beginning of thyme cultivation in Jahrom

Mohammad Reza Shahabi, director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Jahrom city of Jahrom, referring to the beginning of thyme cultivation, said: Thyme cultivation has started 2 days ago in Hakan and Mordak areas with an area of 4 hectares in the central part of this city.

He said that after a few years, this plant has been successfully cultivated in the central part of Jahrom, adding: Currently, with good production and thyme seed sales agency, contracts have been signed with other farmers and their products will be purchased with a guarantee.

Shahabi stated: This seed grows up to 5 years in the ground and in the first year it can be harvested from this plant in September and November.

Emphasizing on saving water consumption by planting this medicinal plant, he continued: Thyme seeds need one to two hours of water a day until the first week after planting, and from the second week onwards, half an hour of watering per week was enough for it. And in each hectare of thyme, 10 tons of thyme or 3 tons of dried thyme are obtained, which are purchased as a guarantee.

The head of Jahrom Agricultural Jihad Office added: Each hectare of thyme costs about 17 million Tomans for the first 5 years and each kilogram is sold for 36 to 98 thousand Tomans in the market.

Shahabi stated: The planting season of thyme seeds is late April to mid-May.
