Cumin harvest began from model farms in Yazd

Harvesting of cumin medicinal plant from 0.3 hectares of lands in Yazd city began as a model farm.

Seyyed Esmaeil Sajjadipour, an expert in agriculture and horticulture in Jihad-e-Keshavarzi, Yazd city, predicted that a total of 300 kilograms of crop would be harvested from these farms, considering the yield of one ton per hectare.

He added: This product is in two types of cumin and black cumin, which is cultivated as a model in Fahraj region, and considering that this plant needs little water, it can be considered.

The expert further clarified: This crop is planted in the second half of December to the first half of March, which requires about 120 days to reach the seeds and harvest.

He added: During this period, usually three irrigations, one during planting and two irrigations in spring, and due to the fact that the plant is very susceptible to fungal diseases, weeds should be weeded two or three times.

Sajjadipour, stating that cumin is resistant to cold, drought and salinity and has many nutritional, medicinal, health and cosmetic values, said: Cumin is a flowering plant and belongs to the umbrella or parsley family that has anti-flatulence and indigestion medicinal properties.
