The director of horticulture of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Khuzestan province said: it is predicted that 150,000 tons of dates will be produced in Khuzestan province this year.

Amrullah Membini explained this matter: The harvest of fresh dates, including rotab and dates, has started since mid-July and has continued until now. The main cultivar of harvested dates is Rotab.

He added: Abadan, Shadegan, Ahvaz, Mahshahr and Behbahan are the main cities producing dates in the province, among which the cities of Abadan and Shadegan have occupied about 80% of the province’s date cultivation area. The main cultivars of Khark and Rotab, in addition to colonization, are Barhi and Barim.

Membini stated that about 30% of the total date production of the province is harvested as fresh food (Khark and Rotab), and said: more than 90% of the total date production of the province is of the colonial date type, of which about 40 thousand tons are annually Exported abroad.
