Grapes that did not raisins!
The director of Kashmir Agricultural Jihad said:
Kashmar has entered the 15th year of drought and this year’s heat has caused a lot of damage
to vineyards so that many of them have not turned into raisins due to burns.
Mohammad Swabi said that the drought has caused irreparable damage to the agricultural sector in recent years, adding:
Many gardeners were forced to harvest their grapes prematurely.
The director of Kashmar Agricultural Jihad stated:
In Kashmar city, more than 23 types of grapes cultivars are cultivated, the most important of which are Pikami and Asgari.
90% of vineyards are cultivated by these two types of grape varieties.
There are currently 3,500 hectares of vineyards in the city and 25 tons are harvested per hectare.
Swabi assessed the climate of the city as very suitable for grapes cultivars and added:
out of 80,000 tons of grapes that are produced, 20% of it is consumed fresh and the rest is turned into raisins.
He considered grapes, saffron, cantaloupe and almonds as strategic products of the region and said:
Since the last five years, we have witnessed hail,
drought and heavy rains in the region every year,
which has caused the flowers of trees and vineyards to fall at the beginning of each year. Have many.
The director of Kashmar Agricultural Jihad pointed to the existence of 25 types of products in the city and added:
Due to the changes that have occurred in the climate in recent years,
a lot of damage has been done to the agricultural products of the city.
The heat of this summer has been unprecedented in the last few years.
Swabi stated that in the next few years,
the cultivation pattern of the region will definitely change and farmers will move towards the production of horticultural products,
adding that the residual damage caused by climate change in orchards is greater than that of crops.
He added:
Since the beginning of this year, over 3,000 light livestock have been lost in the central part and the Red Mountain.
