The head of Hormozgan Agricultural Jihad Organization said: 218,750 tons of winter onions were harvested in Hormozgan and this product meets the needs of the whole country in winter.

Alinaghi Salehi added: 218,750 tons of onions were harvested this year, which is 16% less than last year.

The head of the Hormozgan Agricultural Jihad Organization stated: Last year, due to the lack of a suitable sales market and the losses incurred by Hormozgani onion growers, this year the area under cultivation of this crop was reduced.

He stated: Last year, 12,400 hectares of land were planted with onions and more than 330,000 tons were harvested. Winter onion harvest in Hormozgan continues until early May.

Salehi stated: In addition to meeting the needs of Hormozgan market, onions harvested in the province are also transported to the northern, Tehran and central provinces, and the cities of Bandar Abbas, Minab and Rudan are the most important onion growing areas in Hormozgan.

The head of Jihad Keshavarzi Organization considered the advantage of onion crop in winter and its marketability and said: the planting season of this crop is from mid-November to mid-January and the harvest season is from late February to late May.

He added: Hormozgan ranks first in winter onion production in the country, onion is effective in reducing cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, risk of heart attack and stroke due to the presence of sulfur, chromium, and vitamin B6. Large, osteoporosis in women reduces joint pain and inflammation and is useful in the treatment of colds.
