Onion harvest begins in northern Sistan and Baluchestan

Harvesting of different onion cultivars from the agricultural lands of Helmand city began.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Helmand city said: various onion cultivars will be planted in October according to the climatic conditions of this region.

Rostami stated that the area under cultivation of this lucrative crop in this city is more than 82 hectares and added: Texas, Early Grano white and yellow, Primavera, white onion and local cultivars are among the cultivars cultivated in this region.

He continued by predicting the harvest of about 3,300 tons of onions this year: In addition to meeting the needs of the province’s market, this product will also be exported to Afghanistan.

Rostami said: This product has been planted this year in three ways: direct seed sowing, small onions and seedling cultivation.

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Helmand city added: the production of this product has created a lot of jobs in the region so that 180 people create jobs during a harvest season.
