Types of pottery drying methods
General tips for drying pottery and clay drying pottery on the shelf indicate a good flow of air. Drying the clay and clay we make is an important step in preparing them for the kiln. There are two important issues in this regard.
1- Pottery, especially those with uneven prominence or thickness (for example, on handles) should be dried evenly.
2- All the clay should be dried in the oven before it turns into a brick color until it turns golden.
Place the dishes on the shelf so that free air flows to each one. Do not dry dry earthenware dishes quickly using heaters or hot air blowers such as hair dryers.
This can cause the clay to crack, especially when the flower is too hard or too dry. Drying slowly and evenly is the best way. If things are drying too quickly, cover them with plastic so that they do not stick to the dishes. If the humidity is high, cover the work with plastic with the next newspaper. The newspaper absorbs any vapor converted to liquid. Do not try to dry any container after it has hardened the leather without removing any armature flexibility. An armature that does not compress easily enough will cause the flower to crack.
Use wire hangers to dry pottery A sheet of flower hangs on a hanging wire hanger that allows the moisture in the flower to evaporate on all surfaces. Floral sheets and tiles are very prone to warping and cracking because they usually have only a long surface exposed to air and cause the sheet to dry unevenly. One way to dry a clay sheet or tile evenly is to lay it on a wire hanger. You can see the clay sheet on the wire hanger with a piece of cloth under it. The sheet of paper spread on the fabric is removed with a hook-like device and transferred to a wire hanger. This will help reduce the possibility of curvature of the flower, which causes internal pressure and leads to crooked pottery.
A diagram of how to use a drywall to dry clay sheets and tiles evenly because a drywall made of plaster can be very useful when working with clay sheets and tiles. Just like plaster, a dry wall can absorb moisture from a flower.
Make sure the drywall is tidy, not the drywall that has barriers to reduce mold.
The tubular sheets of clay or tiles are placed on newspaper sheets. When flattened, it is transferred to the first part of the dry wall and covered with another sheet of newspaper, then the second part of the dry wall is placed on it. Repeat the same process as needed. The dry wall absorbs moisture from both sides of the flower petals and tiles, thus drying the flower slowly and evenly. Place the clay sheets and tiles between the pieces of drywall to dry the leather firmly or bone.
