Beginning of Hersin onion harvest in 550 hectares

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city announced the beginning of onion harvest in this city.

Ali Ashraf Jalili said: 550 hectares of the city lands have been allocated for onion cultivation this year.

According to the director of Jihad Keshavarzi in Hersin , the area under onion cultivation in Hersin has decreased by 10% this year, mainly due to recent droughts and limited water resources, reduced rainfall and declining groundwater levels.

Jalili added: Last year, 600 hectares of lands in Hersin city were allocated for onion cultivation.

He said that last year more than 30,000 tons of onions were produced in this city, and predicted that 30,000 tons of onions will be produced in Hersin this year as well.

According to the director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city, the average yield of Hersin onion has increased compared to last year and has reached 55 tons per hectare from 50 tons per hectare.

Jalili said that the use of new methods to fight diseases and weeds and increase the technical knowledge of farmers in general is the main reason for the increase in the average yield of onions in this city.

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city, said: the onion produced in this city is Azarshahr red onion cultivar, which is considered as a good type of onion.

He considered the high storage capacity of Hersin onion as the main reason for its high marketability and said: The good shelf life of this onion has caused the demand for its purchase to be high.

Jalili mentioned the spicy and unique aroma, taste and taste of this figure as other reasons for its quality.

According to the director of Hersin Agricultural Jihad, the harvest of Hersin onions will continue until the end of September.
