Onion harvest began in North Khorasan

The director of agriculture of North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization announced the beginning of onion harvest from the farms of this province.
Farzad Adalatian mentioned the area under onion cultivation in the province as 750 hectares and added: it is predicted that by the end of the harvest season, about 30,000 tons of onion will be harvested from this area.
He added: Last year, 24,500 tons of onion were harvested from 700 hectares.
Adalatian mentioned the main cultivated onion cultivars in the province as golden yellow, red Azarshahr and local white, respectively, and added: The average harvest of onion in the province is 40 tons per hectare.
He said: This year, the amount of onion harvest in the province has increased compared to last year due to the increase in product prices and market demand.
The director of agriculture of North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization continued: Last year, 24,500 tons of onion were harvested from 700 hectares.
Mr. Adalatian mentioned the allocation of 210 tons of chemical fertilizers, monitoring of planting, holding and harvesting, and the introduction of improved cultivars compatible with the region, among other measures taken to support onion growers.
He also considered price fluctuations and the lack of proper storage for the crop as the main problems of onion growers in the province.
