Prediction of harvesting more than 3,000 tons of onions in Helmand
The director of Helmand Agricultural Jihad announced the forecast of harvesting about 3,300 tons of onions crops from the farms of this city this year.
Rostami added: in addition to meeting the needs of the province’s market, this product is also exported to Afghanistan.
He said: Various onions cultivars are cultivated in October according to the climatic conditions of this region.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Helmand city stated that the area under cultivation of this profitable crop in this city is more than 82 hectares and said: Texas, Early white and yellow, Primavera, white onions and local cultivars are among the cultivars cultivated in this region.
He stated: This product has been planted this year in 3 methods of direct seed sowing, small onions and seedling cultivation.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Helmand city added: the production of this product has created a lot of jobs in the region, so that 180 people create jobs during a harvest season.
He also said about the production of grapes in this city: from the first of June of this year, the harvest of ruby grapes has started from 350 hectares of gardens in Helmand city.
He added: In this city, in addition to red ruby grapes, there are other cultivars such as white ruby, Fakhri, Samar Ghandi, Rish Baba and other cultivars, but red ruby grape has many fans due to its good sales in the market.
Rostami stated: In addition to consumption in the Sistan markets, ruby grapes are also exported to different parts of the country and have a good price and marketability.
He said: One of the programs that has been done in this direction is the production of grape seedlings, which annually plant more than 250,000 cuttings in the gardens of this city, and so far about 50% of these seedlings have taken root.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Helmand city also pointed out: due to the variety of cultivation in agricultural products, we have imported other cultivars from different parts of the country in the city, which have been cultivated and have had a positive performance so far.
